My boss finally found the CMM on MegaDownload site, but it still wouldn't install completely. But, music, photos, and video would not sync. At this point the CMM did let me synchronise to the mp3 player (music, movies, and photos);also, finally realized that on the CMM the little telephone-looking icon beside the listing means it is on the mp3 player. I bought this device to download music from my public library - for free. So forget those companies who want to be your next utility bill. Buy it. You are suppose to go to the MENU, select MUSIC, then select ALBUM, and then listen to your album. But that doesn't work either, with this device. What a disappointment. In fact, this unit DID NOT WORK out of the box. I even DELETED ALL THE SONGS the first time I programed music into it, and started again, believing that perhaps I put too many songs on in the flash drive, for the unit to have memory to spare for the catagories. Both times I programmed this, the categories did NOT work Even tho this is a cheap unit, it SHOULD have functioning software included, so the COBY works the way its advertised to work. (And if you want to hear a song, in the middle of the 800 song list, its almost certain that it will take MORE TIME to located the song, than it does to PLACE the song. So I opted to get this one because it has a screen and a full 8GB of storage space. It works well, is very lightweight (I use Velcro to stick things like this and my voice recorder and my GPS and my phone to my dashboard while driving), and is well worth what I paid for it. There are a few small issues I have with it, though -- issues I did not have with the cheaper, no-screen version I'd had in the car before: 1. The volume is not consistent from song to song. So, older songs from older CDs play very softly and new CDs or direct downloads pay very loudly. Let me list them: Low volume - compared to previous MP3 players I have owned. Poor audio quality - again, compared to the previous players. Bad menu layout and controls - the buttons don't always work, and trying to get anywhere is a chore. Inconsistent track sorting - I loaded it up with nearly 8GB of MP3s, and can't even find a few of the albums on anything other than the directory listing. Not under Albums, artists, or genres. Shuffle, isn't so much - I would think that shuffling through the entire 8GB would actually do that, but it seems to play multiple songs from the same album before moving on. Every single time. Inconsistent track sorting - Yeah, I know, I already had this one, but even the songs that do show when browsing through artists - don't always show up under the right artist. Remember, the exact same songs have worked correctly before on three devices from three different manufacturers within the last year. Album art (sometimes it's there, sometimes it's not) - I bought this as a replacement to a Sony player for my four year old. She's not the best reader in the world yet, and depends on the album art to determine where she's at. I know an Ipod has more storage space, I have like 90gb inside my music folder but I don't even listen to all the music I have on 4GB so carrying a 160GB ipod would be a waste, because in my case I already have my favorites songs so 4GB is too much for me. I've been using it for more than a month by now and had no problems. Just make sure you push the earphones into the plug until everything is inside; I think I read a review here where a guy says that earphones don't go all the way in and I had the same problem but found out I just needed to push it a little bit more and the problem was solved. So there you go, another reason to buy this: cheap, does what you want, and IT WILL LAST!It feels a little flimsy when you take it out of the plastic packaging, especially if you are used to Apple products, but it is far easier to use. I have no doubt that it is less durable than some, but for the price is great. No need for software, though it does say otherwise (?).
