Powering the Player Coby MP3 players are powered in one of two ways--either with a regular AAA battery or with a built-in rechargeable battery. USB stick models--including the MP300--run on a AAA battery. To load a battery, simply slide the USB cap off the top of the player and remove the battery cover. Insert the battery, replace the battery cover and USB cap.

I can't really comment on the video capabilites because I have no desire to use that feature and don't have any of them to judge it by. You can see the album artwork and other identifying information in the viewer when you play something. I read about people having problems with it hanging. I did experience this once but only after I had been frigging around with my music, creating MP3s from iTunes crap and adding and deleting various items. I simply turned it off, then back on and resynched and everything was fine. I know of iPods which hang up too. It's just the way with computers.sometimes you have to reboot but user error is usually a contributing factor whether they know they did something wrong or not! (I work in the Technical Support field--seen it a million times). Anyway, I wouldn't hesitate to buy this device again. As such I was totally enthralled and rapt with satisfaction for my initial purchase. I am probably one of the exceptions in today's society where I do not download songs from websites, but rather burn my CDs to my computer using CDex and then copy over the album folder (files) to my MP3 (Coby) player. At first everything seemed okay. Then I began to notice songs were missing or began to appear in folders for completely different bands. On 11 tracks, sometimes it would omit track 3, then track 8 or simply put them in the wrong order even though when looking at the device through Windows (My Computer) everything was there and in the correct order. After contacting Coby (total waste of time) they stated that the device was well outside of the 45 day warranty. I did, however find a way to reformat the device with limited success, but I have decided to move on from Coby and go with a different brand of MP3 player. On a final note: It is bad enough that we are buying inferior electronics that are manufactured in China. What makes it worse is the level of customer support that comes from the manufacturers of those products.

My list of dislikes is short: one is that it is very small so not as easy for my big hands to operate but this could also be considered an advantage in that it doesn't take up much space. Second is that if you stop it while playing one of your playlists, it does not restart where you left off. A minor thing but somewhat annoying. I really like the fact that you do not need to use iTunes and their locked up music. If I buy music then I expect that I can play it anywhere, not just on an ipod or with itunes and if I want to share it with my partner then I expect to be able to do that too. Why pay more for the same thing. Well actually, you get a little more with this because it even has an FM Radio built in to it for those times when you have to reach out to the real world. I tried it out and it works pretty good but I mostly just listen to my downloaded music. I find the earbuds an acceptable size and they work well and fit into my ears without any issues.

But the lock-up issue is really bad.

The user manual which came with it doesn't have hardly any info in it. It refers to a more comprehensive instruction manual stored inside the player but I couldn't find it.Don't know much about battery life yet since it's so new. Overall I wouldn't recommend it. Hope Coby will fix this bug and provide with a software upgrade soon. Please try again later. Please try again later. M. Piepenbrink 4.0 out of 5 stars I really wasn't looking for an MP3 player that also had video capabilities but for the price, I thought why not try it. I didn't even bother using the software that Coby supplied. You do need Windows Media Player to Synch with the player at least initially. Windows Media Player has to create the folders for each type of media you are using. As someone else mentioned, you do need to sync a video that does not work on the player (because of format) to create the video folder on the player. Then you can drag and drop (or delete) videos and music into the folders as if the MP3 player was an external hard drive. My computer gives me a message saying the video format will not work on the player but I ignore that message and the converted video will play anyway. Windows must have that coded incorrectly. Minor Frustration: For probably 85% of music, the sound is great but for the rest, sound isn't the best on this player. I do believe it has to do with the equalizer settings. This is when there is excessive base in a song or when there is vocal with minimal instrumentals. It seems to be that certain frequencies overwhelm the equalizer and the output is stunted because of it. Changing between equalizer presets helps a little but does not always fix this.I have tried several earphones so know it has to be the player at fault. If you don't have the hold mode on, the back and forward buttons are very sensitive to the touch when playing media. The volume control is much less sensitive. The ear buds they supply are more like small speakers and may not be small enough for everybody. Please try again later. Please try again later. Jerry H. Chambers 5.0 out of 5 stars Please try again later. Please try again later. J. D. Bennett 3.0 out of 5 stars That was one of the best Mp3 Players (Non-Ipod) I had.

I bought my girlfriend a Coby 2gb Mp3 Player (different model) and she told me how durable it was and how much she liked it, I figured I'd save some money get this nice looking Coby Mp3 Player. Cons: The touch pad can be a pain because it lags. Finding a certain song is a task also, as it doesn't list songs alphabetically, nor can you quickly scroll through the list of songs and find what song you want. Battery life only lasts maybe 10 hrs, keep the charger handy. I have also felt the Mp3 player get real hot when being played for a long duration of time (could eventually damage the mp3 later after many uses) The Search Feature (which is unique) will only play That song you searched for, it will not go to another song, it will repeat that song Pro: Slim design 8gb of storage will hold more than a 8gb Ipod (4,000 songs compared to about 2,500) Bright lighting allows to easily see the information on the screen and Touch Pad Keys It shows the Album Art of each Album The USB Charger will dual as a wall charger, providing you have a USB Wall Adapter. Please try again later. Please try again later. Shane 3.0 out of 5 stars When you download CDs from Windows Media Player, it does not download the entire CD. The screen says it does, but it does not. It has a tendency to skip tracks of the CDs when downloading them. I would not recommend buying this until Coby fixes this error. Although it says 8Gs. I think that the music portion has less than 8Gs of use because all the other features such as the radio, color movies, etc are helping to take up the 8Gs of space, thereby leaving less space for music downloads. Coby needs to fix this!!!Please try again later. Please try again later.Pros: Good Price Good storage size (8gb) Pretty good display Cons: The touch pad is hard to get used to -- it looks like the silver ring would be the clickable buttons - not so -- the lighted controls disappear after a few seconds, so you are not sure exactly where to touch.
